Heads Up:  Price Change on Arizona Fire Agate to take place Sept 1st

We had an inquiry and now a fine piece of AZ Fire Agate is on hold; to determine which area produced our Fire Agate from Arizona, we reached out to the source who is known for fine quality material and whom we had purchased our gemstones from many years ago.  One of his pieces that we had was photographed and published in Keith Wallis’ book on gemstones, where All That Glitters had 35+ of our gemstones in that book representing their species.  The Fire Agate dealer wanted a signed copy by L. Allen Brown/All That Glitters at that time when we had purchased new material.  The pieces you see on our AZ Fire Agate page are those pieces and they are exceptional examples of this unique mineral/gemstone – a number of them would have been in the book IF we had them at the time that Keith Wallis was doing his 2^nd edition.  In requesting the locality our Fire Agate, the dealer wanted photos so we obliged.  He also noted what our cost is now on these items and we will be updating the pricing to reflect our current cost to purchase similar material IF it can be found.  All areas are really not producing anything in quantity for a number of reasons.

We should be increasing the prices to match the dealer/wholesale prices of many of the species we carry (Alexandrite, Tanzanite, Fancy Zoisite (Tanzanite), Sapphire, Ruby, Tourmaline, Imperial Pink and Orange Topaz and many others) to reflect the dealer prices we have been seeing over the past decade, since our pricing is currently way below those prices).

Gemstones in Cutting:

Yes, finally the package of our rough noted over months in the past was sent to one of our specialty cutters and we are awaiting the results.  Of the approximately 24 gemstones to be faceted, a few of the LuAg Lab Garnet, as well as a few Oregon Sunstones have been completed.  Hopefully in a month, we should have all back in the All That Glitters office…

What we are expecting back in the future includes:

  One Blue Flash Amethyst; Numerous Oregon Sunstone consisting of Clear, Straw Colored, Reddish/Orange and Pieces containing Copper Schiller; 7 pieces of the Neon LuAG Lab Grown Garnet; 1 piece of a partially worked 30+ct Color Changing Turkish Diaspore, originally from a 100ct piece of rough and that was put away for many years; and 2 pieces of very  special Color Changing Garnet from Africa.  Cutting should be completed over the next few months, as we have 24 pieces to be faceted and it does take time for the quality work that our specialty cutters is known for.

In the All That Glitters office, the owner, L. Allen Brown, has been faceting a Chrome YAG in a fancy emerald shape.  Due to the first time cutting this particular design, it has been a challenge aligning all the facets and due to the girdle being slightly thicker on one side and attempting to correct this, the gemstone will be smaller than anticipated and hoped.  This was been in the process of cutting for some time and hopefully will be completed in a few weeks if time at the lap is available.  It is possible that it could be given to one of our cutters to complete, with another gem being started in a previously successfully completed design. 

UPDATE – getting the girdle to align properly was taking too much time and it has been removed from the dop and the cutting process.  Eventually, when other rough is sent to our cutters, we will include this to be faceted…so this will be in inventory ‘sometime’ in the future.

There is very little new rough presently in our inventory in general and we already have representations faceted from that rough, including:  Blue Flash Amethyst, Blended Ametrine, Tourmaline, Color Change Diaspore, Yellow Beryl, Color Change Garnet, Umbalite and Rhodolite Garnet, Oregon Sunstone, Lab Grown Alexandrite and others….
