*** Buy Yourself a Gift for the Past 1.5 Years of Living in a
Pandemic *** :
Not
sure if you are similar to the owner of All That Glitters and some others we
have spoken with, but many feel
that
they deserve something special for having gotten through the past 1.5 years
because of the World Pandemic.
With all the stress, being couped up and locked down, restrictions, not being able to go out, for most no indoor dining, seeing friends or relatives…the list goes on and on and on. We deserve to purchase something very special and unique for ourselves – literally a gift for ourselves that we would really like and appreciate for the past hard/difficult times. Regardless of what it is, whether it is a gemstone, piece of jewelry, a painting, oriental rug, clothes, a car or bike, a vacation, fine wine – buy it for yourself and enjoy it! SPLURGE on Yourself – You Deserve it! We all deserve something special after this past stressful year of 2020…
All That Glitters was “Roughing” It In Oregon:
Our trip to the high deserts of Oregon in search of Sunstone on claims owned and operated by a number of our friends and associates concluded. Came back a day earlier than expected as high heat came in earlier this year than expected and we had gotten what we sought to accomplish. Unfortunately, we didn’t find any Sunstone of value during paid belt runs (and though one does pay for this service which covers essentially the work crew required and the cost of fuel, items of value still have to be paid for), and there were a few pieces that could produce something decent, but not a very high value. That being said, there was some rough that the owner of All That Glitters was privy to view and some choice pieces were indeed purchased. Sometime in the future, a few pieces will make their way to cutting and be offered to our customers. We did learn that our Wholesale Pricing was far better than what was expected. We were told by our associates and owners/operators of the mines, that some off our pricing was not only at wholesale, but up to 1/3 of wholesale – so what they deemed to have a value of $300-$350/ct, we were selling at $100/ct. If the wholesale is at $300/ct, then stores will have to put prices to the retail public at $1000/ct. Glad were aren’t in the retail part of this sector!
Newly Faceted or Newly Photographed Gemstones:

An Oregon Sunstone, with various colors but predominately light
green with hints of blush, was completed by the owner of All That Glitters from
rough recently purchased on the Oregon Sunstone Trip back in June! Nice shape, great colors, super cutting!
Faceted
by the owner of All That Glitters, a 38.14ct Blue Russian YAG (Yttrium Aluminum
Garnet) has come off the dop. Check out
the photo and video!
After literally a 3 year wait, two large important Oregon Sunstones have been returned to us from one of our specialty cutters. It was June of 2018 when two approx. 100ct pieces of Oregon Sunstone rough were sent to a multi-award winning cutter (DH). As two pieces done by this cutter in the past were returned about 6 months after being received, we expected the same timeframe and that is what was conveyed to us. That timeframe stretched into 2.5 years; he stated numerous times that he would start them soon – but that never happened and we requested them returned in November of 2020. We sent these two pieces to a very capable cutter who studied under the previous cutter noted – and in 6 months, we finally had the results! After a three year wait, we have two Oregon Sunstones which weigh almost 40cts each – a 35+ct Elongated Cushion with sharp corners, of a coppery orange color with some schiller and a 38+ct Equilateral-Looking Triangular piece which glitters/sparkles in all directions and is of a light yellow color. Both are hand grooved vs. flat faceted.
Gemstones in Cutting:
A Blue Flash Amethyst was completed and found a new home with a customer of All That Glitters, who has done business with us over the past several decades.
Another Oregon Sunstone was started but put aside for the future when it started becoming much smaller than anticipated.
Currently working on an Ametrine in an interesting Oval design –
stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed….
With respect to Oregon Sunstone, we have chosen a piece that should cut a triangular gem – it is currently dopped and we have been putting in the initial pavilion facets. Starting at about 38cts we anticipate a just under 7ct finished gem. Color is totally unknown as this seems to be a champagne color but there is a dot of color on the side – so with the mixing of body color and this dot, what the final gem will look like will not be known until the gem is removed from the dop and cleaned up… (The above mentioned gemstone has been completed and can be seen on our Newly Photographed page)
There is very little new rough presently and we already have representations faceted from that rough, including: Blue Flash Amethyst, Blended Ametrine, Tourmaline, Color Change Diaspore, Yellow Beryl, Color Change Garnet, Umbalite and Rhodolite Garnet, Synthetic Alexandrite and others….

Trade Sales are Up:
For a month or so, we have signed up to sell on a trade related
website for those in the gem/jewelry trade.
We are moving out older material at a fast rate, so if you peruse a
number of our pages, you may see a number of items that have recently
sold. The best way to move All That
Glitters inventory is to offer it directly to the trade, such as being an
exhibitor at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.
We are working on this for the future, as we hope to move a decent
percentage of our over 5000 Fine Quality Colored Gemstones!...
