Rough is Scarce; Fine Quality Rough is More Scarce and Too Costly!
Rough has always been difficult to find, and the higher end material that All That Glitters seeks is far more rare and the price is related to the size, color and quality in general. Even the material that we would not normally wish to stock in inventory, has seen dramatic increases in prices.
In a recently read post on-line, a gemstone dealer/cutter had some comments about finding rough. Below are this persons observations:
Unfortuantely the rough supply in the last few years has been terrible, and there just is not much quality rough to go around. So unless things change (they might but it does not look promising), you will not find much quality rough. It is just not around...

You will still likely spend your money one way or the other but rough is tight, and I mean really tight right now. There will be very few crumbs to find this year...
Besides the fact that even if it was a good supply year unless you have some serious capital you are wasting your time as far as buying quality parcels. The big dealers who are connected generally end up with the supply...
I am trying not to be too negitive here, believe it or not...This is the lowest rough supply I have ever seen since I have been in the business and the prices of anything decent is breath taking.
