Anticipated New Items to Be Photographed:

We will not be receiving a number of new items added to the All That Glitters Collection, including about 15 gemstones that were partially faceted and started in the All That Glitters Office, until sometime in March.  We had hoped to have been photographing these pieces by now, but we are working on the details of shipping/insurance, etc. and busy after the return from the Tucson Show – and not to mention the fact that covid was also an issue.  Trade Shows, especially Tucson, is a place where one is exposed to all kinds of viruses at this time of the year.  We will be creating another package for this cutter containing rough from All That Glitters, and there will be even more newly photographed gemstones to view in the not too distant future!  There are so many gemstones in the ATG Collection with only a few actually appearing on our website!  Total loose gemstones is approximately 5000, and that doesn’t include rough, mineral specimens or trade/mineral/gemstone ‘related’ items!

Gemstones in Cutting:

On the dop currently in the All That Glitters office for cutting, a Blue Flash Amethyst which will be a similar shape that some people have seen in a Clear Danburite we faceted in the past.  Due to numerous sales and activities in the All That Glitters Office, no work has been done on this Amethyst recently.  This gemstone might be sent out with other rough to one of our specialty cutters to be completed.  The

All That Glitters Ultratec lapidary unit is in need of some repairs/tweaking.

We have sent a number of unfinished gemstones started in the All That Glitters Office to be completed by one of our cutters – this includes Amethyst, Sunstone, Neon YAG, Ametrine, Color Shifting Garnet and Lab Alexandrite.   We will photograph these and offer them for sale in the future upon their return.  Hope to have them back in March…

There is very little new rough presently and we already have representations faceted from that rough, including:  Blue Flash Amethyst, Blended Ametrine, Tourmaline, Color Change Diaspore, Yellow Beryl, Color Change Garnet, Umbalite and Rhodolite Garnet, Oregon Sunstone, Synthetic Alexandrite and others….

What Has All That Glitters Been Involved in Recently?:

Back from the Tucson Show where we got the opportunity to see our friends/associates from various parts of the world.  In the past few years, a new deposit of pink Tourmaline from Nigeria is available.  Doesn’t require any heating to remove unwanted colors; the color is a lighter pink.  Prices on fine material are up and unheated corundum has seen another jump.  Finding rough at decent prices or finding any good rough is difficult.  Color is becoming more recognized by the public and the demand has been increasing;  natural diamond prices continue to drop as well as lab grown diamonds.  Colored Gemstones are becoming king – though most stores rely on their diamond and gold sales and don’t realize the potential of color, which has no controlling market unlike Diamonds which are controlled by DeBeers and the price of gold which is a commodity, is uniform around the globe.  Due to the time of the year and thousands of people coming into Tucson from around the globe, one usually encounters colds, flu, RSV, Norovirus and of course, covid.  This was another unlikely year for the Owner of All That Glitters, as somewhere during the show, covid was encountered and took hold for the first time – and testing negative did not happen until about day 17th!   Frequently, dealers attending the Tucson Show end up with something during their stay, since it is difficult to avoid when there are perhaps something like 50,000 attendees.

An important large Blue Sapphire was sold this year, saving our customer over $10,000 off the estimated retail price.

It has been noted in an attended discussion in Tucson, that fine colored gemstones will only be available/affordable by the upper middle classes.
