Gemstones in Cutting:
Update – Still awaiting the study of the piece of Diaspore and Oregon Sunstone; looks like the Sunstone might be cabbed and the Diaspore may have a checkerboard high dome top!...  Cutter still looking and pondering – has been about 2 months!...
We are awaiting one of our specialty cutters to see what his thoughts were for completing a Diaspore started by one of our previous cutters but was left unfinished many years ago (after trimming an original segment/crystal of Diaspore, we obtained about a 100ct piece; the pavilion was started with a few facets and the table and crown area is quite large and must be cut down in the future and the entire piece completed – though the trimmed piece was 100cts, the existing piece in progress is now about 33cts, and it is expected that the finished piece might end up being about 15cts if we are lucky, but we are contemplating a fancy high dome top which might have a checkerboard or opposed bar top.)  This piece has an interesting story, being in the hands of 3 different multi-award winning cutters (AGTA Cutting Edge Awards) as well as a cutter who is known for some unique designs. The 2nd piece that one of our cutters is looking at, is a deep red Oregon Sunstone, with a green rind around the red and then this goes to clear out to all the edges – relatively common in this material when the nice reds are found.  This has copper schiller running in more than one direction and 90 degrees from each other and so this is something that might be sleepy when cut, but could have good color; it is also possible that we will cab it but awaiting our specialty cutter (also considering to facet the Diaspore noted above) to think about the options - he is more familiar with the idiosyncrasies of Oregon Sunstone with a green rind and copper schiller.  He has faceted some of our OR Sunstone in the past and he himself does indeed own a claim in the high deserts of Oregon where he mines Sunstone!.  The outcome for these two pieces is still yet to be determined!  They are currently in his queue and he will study them and get back to me with suggestions and possible cutting thoughts…
We have selected some of our rough to be cut and will most likely be sending some material out to be faceted from our rough as well as a recut or two.  (We have decided to temporarily hold off on sending the rough to one of our specialty cutters; but this is only perhaps a small delay.)
We might be selling our existing and last rough to the trade/cutters or perhaps cutting some of it and releasing it at ridiculously low prices – but then again, our prices are a fraction of retail prices seen out there.
There is very little new rough presently in our inventory in general and we already have representations faceted from that rough, including:  Blue Flash Amethyst, Blended Ametrine, Tourmaline, Color Change Diaspore, Yellow Beryl, Color Change Garnet, Umbalite and Rhodolite Garnet, Oregon Sunstone, Synthetic Alexandrite and others….
