Trip to the Turkey – April 2026!:
Off on a trip to Turkey, which produces some interesting
gem material including:
Color Change Diaspore (also called – Zultanite, Czarite,
Ottomanite and Turkizite);
Jet; Chalcedony; Chrysoprase; Lavender Jade; Fire Opal;
Amethyst; Pink Tourmaline
Note that the alternative names above to Diaspore, is a
marketing ploy for sales by various businesses
and are trademarked names – but it is all from the same
area and the official mineral name is called Diaspore.
We have some of the finest examples of Color Change
Diaspore and they may be viewed on the following page:
https://www.atggems.com/Photos_Diaspore.htm
ALSO, you can read more about Color Changing Diaspore in
the International Gem Society (IGS) Article which also displays a
Photograph of two ovals from the All That Glitters
Collection/Inventory – they have long since sold, but many even better ones
exist currently in inventory and our pricing is typically far below expected
retail prices and even wholesale prices at times. All of our Diaspore has
been faceted by well-known U.S. Cutters, known for their multi-award winning
faceted gemstones, with one of these cutters being the Supreme Master Gem
Cutter, Stephen Kotlowski.

Gemstones in Cutting:
We are expecting to facet a Zircon in the future, in a
cushion shape if we continue to go with that shape.
- Ran into issues with the diagonal
keel line so this was put aside for the future.
We might be faceting a LuAG YAG, that Lab Grown (Ce:LuAG,
lutetium aluminum garnet (Lu3Al5O12) doped
with cerium) that glows like lime green radiator fluid – looks like it is
radioactive! We have several pieces of this costly rough and will be
faceting gems over x number of months or even years perhaps, and will be
selling some of the pieces to other facetors. To quote a GIA article on
this material – “This material was introduced to the optics industry in the
late 1990s and acts as a scintillator, a fluorescent crystal that absorbs
high-energy radiation such as X-rays or gamma rays and reemits them as
lower-energy visible light that is much easier to detect.”
- Yes! L. Allen Brown, the owner
of All That Glitters, has recently finished faceting a square from this
material and it weighs 29.08cts and measures approx. 15.5mm. It
glows like it is radioactive! Reminds some of the lime yellow
radiator fluid color. It is priced at only $65/ct – as we have seen
this material at $100/ct and as high as $187/ct (which is a crazy figure,
but some businesses do ask some high numbers for this interesting, unique
and much sought after material).
Contemplating on sending some rough to one of our specialty
cutters, but working out the details.
There is very little new rough presently in our inventory
in general and we already have representations faceted from that rough,
including: Blue Flash Amethyst, Blended Ametrine, Tourmaline, Color
Change Diaspore, Yellow Beryl, Color Change Garnet, Umbalite and Rhodolite
Garnet, Oregon Sunstone, Lab Grown Alexandrite and others….
